Bug Description
Speaker works (either using speakers or on cheapo phone device or on headset) but not sound capturing (i.e. me speaking) on cheapo phone device or headset. I've also tried a USB webcam which shows picture but does not capture sound either. I've tested this on both skype making a test call and making a real call using skype. I then tried Sound Recorder from the Sound & Video menu. That does not record. I've tried this all on both a laptop & a desktop.
I've also tried configuring Gnome Volume Control, System Preferences Sound & Skype Options Sound as per:
http://
I've looked at the webpage giving details about required actions for sound problems. It looks out of date as it only refers to alsa not pulse audio.

I should have mentioned that this applies to upgrades from ibex to jaunty. Solution to this problem is detailed on Ubuntu Geek website. Essentially it involves downloading a bunch of packages (e.g. pdadevchooser) and then configuring sound using pdadevchooser app & System Preferences Sound.
