With UXA enabled, Compiz works well for me.
I usually use an external monitor via the VGA interface in office. The krandrtray is a convenient tool for display switching.
As shown in the attached, I disabled the LVDS and in the meanwhile enabled the VGA. I found the compiz effects were always missing after the switch.
But if I do it in two steps, the compiz is there. The 1st step is to enable the VGA, and the 2nd step is to disable the LVDS.
BTW occasionally the X crashed on switch.

The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Karmic Koala.
