Bug Description

<user>@<system>:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04
<user>@<system>:~$

When tuning on the touchpad on my notebook, the "=" repeats itself untill i press the backspace.

For example,

I now press the on/off button of my mousepad/touchpad: =================================
After the last "=" sign, i pressed the backspace button.
This is the onlyway to stop the "=" sign from repeating. and its only there when i turn on the mousepad/touchpad.

The bug is only present in the X session.
On the terminal screens it shows [31~ as an char when turning on / off the mousepad/touchpad.

I also have the exact same problem, but have two notes to add:
- Any key I press stops the stream of '=', not just the backspace key.
- This problem still exists on Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 1.

As of 23/07 at 23:43 GMT with a fully updated (Lucid) system, this problem still existed for me. This bug does seem a lot more 'temperamental' then it previously was and only seems to happen some of the time. I am currently trying to isolate the conditions for which it occurs, but it seems to me at the moment that it will happen the first time you turn on the mousepad, but subsequent times turning on the mousepad does not activate this bug.

I have been unable to ascertain any more conditions than stated in #5 - i.e. the bug appears to occur on first turning the mousepad on after startup. This theory has been tested in firefox, gedit and through the lock screen process.

These logs are those copied immediately after event occuring (the only event after the bug occuring being to open the terminal and copy those files into the home directory, after which they were attached to this bug report). Thankyou for all your assistance.
