Bug Description

I have tested Ubuntu 9.04 on a laptop computer and Kubuntu 9.04 on a desktop computer.
Both have a serious bug (most likely also the Xubuntu 9.04 have the same problem). In both cases I choosed the Swedish language but after the installation was completed and the computer was rebooted, the GUI was still very English. Only a couple of words was in Swedish. It was not possible to fix it in the settings. After a few minutes KDE crashed.

Seems the network adapter was not recognized.

affects: ubuntu → language-pack-sv (Ubuntu)

Which steps did you take to install the system? Did you use the graphical installer (Live CD) or the Alternate CD with the text based installer?
Was an internet connection available at installation time?

If you do 'dpkg -l | grep language-pack' in a terminal, what do you get?

Since I considered the distro useless, I do not have it in the computer any longer.
So, I can not do 'dpkg -1 | grep language-pack'.

OK, I did an installation in a virtual machine using the Ubuntu desktop CD with the graphical installer in Swedish.
The desktop comes up fine and translated in Swedish. See attached screenshot.

Steps to reproduce:
 * in the boot menu choose 'Svenska' as language
 * 'Installera Ubuntu'
 * always click the continue button
 * at the end it will reboot the computer
 * desktop comes up in Swedish.

I will try the same thing with Kubuntu now.

So, unless you can reproduce this bug and tell me exactly the steps to reproduce this bug, I'll make it as 'Invalid'.

Your screenshot looks OK. But that is not how my screen looked.
I took exactly the same steps as you did to reproduce the bug.
I will try to install it again and then I will take some screenshots.

Attached the Kubuntu screenshot. Looks also OK to me.

What kind of internet connection do you have? Does Ubuntu get the IP via DHCP? Or do you need to configure anything manually?

OK. Now I have installed it again on a laptop.
It is a PackardBell EasyNote.
I have also added three screenshots.
During the installation process it is in Swedish but after reboot it as the screenshots.
I can not get the network to work either. Not the wifi and not the cable.
It is still useless !!!!

OK, so it's a network problem. You cannot download the language-packs from the internet.
Because of space restrictions, the swedish language packs, like most language-packs are not shipped on the CD. They need to be downloaded from Internet. Usually the installer takes care of that. But if you cannot connect to Internet, then of course it doesn't work.

What kind of network adapter do you have?

Note, that this issue is now a driver/configuration issue with your hardware and not a language-pack issue anymore.

Can you please attach the output of 'lspci' and 'dmesg'?

Thanks.
