Bug Description

Hello folks,

I did a fresh ubuntu 9.04 install and all things were working perfect.
After a time using (I don't know when) some multimedia keys has stopped working.

my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1525 and I have multimedia keys on laptop keyboard and on a external usb keyboard, both affected.

keys in question:

volume up -> works
volume down -> works
volume mute -> doesn't
rewind -> doesn't
forward -> doesn't
stop -> doesn't
play/pause -> doesn't

If I create a new user (or use guest account) the keys work again, so I suspect some configuration problem, but I didn't discovery it.

The keys are mapped correctly in System->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts.

Also when I execute xev, the key is detected but nothing happens, see the output for volume mute key:

KeyRelease event, serial 39, synthetic NO, window 0x2800001,
    root 0xb7, subw 0x0, time 4528727, (105,62), root:(187,109),
    state 0x10, keycode 121 (keysym 0x1008ff12, XF86AudioMute), same_screen YES,
    XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
    XFilterEvent returns: False

I don't know if this bug maybe related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/281993

Thanks

that's not a meta-gnome issue, probably it's a linux one, the report needs to be reassigned.
