Bug Description

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

Since my upgrade to Jaunty (9.04) from Intrepid (8.10), resizing the screen resolution to 640x480 (or smaller) loses track of some of the open windows in my task bar. However, the processes for these windows are still running. When I go back to 1280x800, the open windows are still missing and the processes are still running. Resizing to 1024x768 works fine and doesn't lose the windows. Everything worked fine in Intrepid.

This is on a Dell Inspiron 1420 with an Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS (Installed: 180.25-0ubuntu1).

The reason I want to resize is to play starcraft in virtualbox and it needs 640x480 for this (there were bugs when I tried to use wine). virtualbox still runs fine but i lose the windows and need to restart it.

Also, the menu and quick links don't work properly in 640x480 because my menus bar is too crowded (i.e. clicking on the menus launches one of the quick links).

Tim

Hi tfowler-gmail,

Thanks for including an image to demonstrate the issue. Could you also please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log or Xorg.0.log.old file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Maverick Meerkat. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
