GNUMail mailbox window display problems

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 and gnumail.app 1.2.0~pre3+snap20071004-4build1. These problems occur whether I select GNUMail from the menu or run ". /usr/share/GNUstep/Makefiles/GNUstep.sh && openapp /usr/lib/GNUstep/Applications/GNUMail.app" in an xterm.

1) The line of icons (compose, reply, etc) at the top of the mailbox window does not appear.
2) The list of messages appears to be cut off at the top.
3) Trying to scroll the actual message (either using the arrows or moving the marker up and down) doesn't work properly.

I'm attaching two images of the window to show what it looks like. I'm also attaching the log from running GNUMail from the command line.
