Bug Description

Thinkpad T41 (2373-1FG)

After I put my laptop into sleep mode (pressing Fn-F4), it doesn't wakeup anymore. The problem has never been solved. Former kernels crashed the machine on wakeup. Since 2.6.12 (Ubuntu Breezy) the machine won't wakup anymore. The screen stays blank and doesn't display anything.
Hibernate somewhat works (see bug #36180).

I also have a T41 (ATI Radeon using the ati driver) with this problem (basically it comes back up, I can move the mouse around and such, but my hard drive thrashes very badly and does not stop, that is what usually happens, sometimes the screen goes blank and I cannot do anything, totally locked up, but the drive is not thrashing) it probably has nothing to do with the filesystem (happens with both reiserfs and ext3) and it happens in both breezy and dapper for me. also, sometimes just totally randomly when I am using the computer the hard drive starts thrashing and I cannot use the system.
as this says https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.15/+bug/21609
removing the splash option helps to at least get video back, but my drive thrashes and my system is thus unusable (cannot even start top).
in windows 2000 it does work fine and dandy.
