Bug Description
I think it is more imporant to have the volume applet in a prominent position (movening wise), than the date.
I know you can launch evolution from and se things from the date, but it is much wider than the volume applet and thus easier to click on.
Also when you need to click on the volume button, it is sometimes because the sound is extremely high, so an easy way to hit it is important.
Also when people hear music sitting by their computer, and somebody comes to speak with them, it is a good idea to be able to turn down the volume quickly, and not fiddle with it (if positioned in the upper right and bug #36717 is also fixed, you could turn down the volume blindfolded).

Thanks for your bug. On date the top right corner has the session dialog launcher. Anyway that discussion would be better placed on a list, few people would read that bug. I'm rejecting it, feel free to mail ubuntu-desktop list on the topic by example. Note that you can use multimedia keys or a keyboard for kick volume change by example
