Bug Description

Enigmail is not working on my fresh Ubuntu 9.04 amd64 installation. It was working perfectly fine with Ubuntu 8.10 32bit, however. Whenever I try to send an e-mail using encryption or signatures it displays a message saying something like:

Enigmime service not available.
Initialisation of Enigmail failed.
Send message unencrypted?

Thunderbird and enigmail are installed, also I can configure enigmail via the "OpenPGP" menu.

You can find a screenshot in the attachment. Don't mind that it is in German, I don't see an easy way to provide one in English.

My system: Ubuntu 9.04 64bit. CPU: AMD X2 6000+. Motherboard chip: nForce 560 SLI. Main memory: 2 GB. Graphics card: NVidia 7600 GS.

I finally got it working. I cannot really tell how I did it. It was a combination of deactivating, uninstalling and re-installing the enigmail add-on which made it finally work. However, I think that it could be possible to reproduce the problem by copying a thunderbird home directory from Ubuntu 8.10 to Ubuntu 9.04.

when you installed 9.04 did you install Enigmail or did you just copy the profile? We are unable to further process this bug as we don't have the info needed, it is unlikely that we will get the info needed since reporter can not reproduce this bug any longer. I would say if someone else runs into this bug we should reopen this bug or use the other bug the user reported, I would love to see logs if this happens with upgrade, Most likely this was caused by not installing Enigmail after install, In other wors you were trying to use the enigmail that was part of your profile.

Changed in enigmail (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

I have similar problems. This is what I did:
- I installed jaunty (32bit) additionally,
- sym-linked the profile with the old install (intreped).

Now Enigmail is complaining that it can't find the gpg anymore - EVEN back in intreped.

Are you interested in more details, or is this just not the way to go and I have to re-install & re-configure enigmail?

Here is the screenshot of the GPG-Not-found-error - I also tried the override (i.e. the mentioned gpg-File exits), but he still complains about not being able to find gpg.

Please file a bug on your problem asthough i am thinking this is a local problem for you. either you didnt use our ersion or you had mozillas version already installed, or a fs problem. Without being there i cant tell. Please file your own bug on this
Remove the symlink than purge the package than install our version see if it helps before filing another bug.
