Bug Description

Binary package hint: usb-creator

The created usb volumes are not bootable here. The Ubuntu splashscreen is displayed with the box running from left to right for a *very* long time, afterwards I'm thrown in the console with a modprobe error message (see screenshot). I'm using Jaunty.

I stumbled over this workaround while trying to install ubuntu netbook remix via USB. As modules.dep i used one from a standard desktop installation (same kernel version).

Here is a explanation how to get the modules.dep into the Initrd:

That file is created during the livefs build and should most certainly be in the squashfs. If you mount the squashfs file from the CD image itself (mount -t squashfs /cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs /mnt), can you see the modules.dep file in the mountpoint?

I'm getting this in Karmic:

FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.31-20-generic/modules.dep: No such file or directory
Unable to find a medium containing a live file system.

...and then I get kicked to an "(initramfs)" prompt.

I used ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso to populate the USB stick with usb-creator. While running off of it, I updated the Software Sources to grab files from the 'net, ran Update Manager to update all packages and then rebooted when it asked me to do so. Rather than getting an updated system, I got the above error message.
