Bug Description
Binary package hint: synaptic
I am using Ubuntu 9.04 and synaptic 0.62.5ubuntu2.1. When I start synaptic and search for packages, the search only returns packages that are already installed. For example, when I search for vim, the search only returns vim-tiny and vim-tiny, which are installed, not vim-gnome or vim-runtime, which are not. Even after I installed the latter two packages using apt-get, synaptic does not report them as installed.

I have a similar problem regarding the search when adding/removing packages. I think the cause is the same bug but I can search for some packages just fine, but if I do a search for a package that does not exist, and I see no results, any subsequent searches will not give any results, I have to close and re-open the package manager to do a search again. This is a new problem in 9.04 that never occurred in 8.10, can you check if your also experiencing this and if you do not have these symptoms, I can report this as a different bug.
