Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I try to update Pidgin today, I copy and paste the commands in the terminal given here : http://www.pidgin.im/download/ubuntu/

  sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com \
      67265eb522bdd6b1c69e66ed7fb8bee0a1f196a8
  . /etc/lsb-release
  echo deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu \
      $DISTRIB_CODENAME main | \
      sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pidgin-ppa.list

Here is the "result" :

Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --secret-keyring /etc/apt/secring.gpg --trustdb-name /etc/apt/trustdb.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 67265eb522bdd6b1c69e66ed7fb8bee0a1f196a8
gpg: requête de la clé A1F196A8 du serveur hkp keyserver.ubuntu.com

Update Manager notifies the bug, and doesn't operate anymore (I can't add any package) :
'E:Ligne 1 mal formée dans la liste des sources /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pidgin-ppa.list (analyse de distribution), E:La liste des sources ne peut être lue.'

Synaptic doesn't operate anymore :
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

Thanks for the answer, but I found an other solution.

I've got Kubuntu too, and I found how to desactivate the Pidgin update (I found a way to update on Kubuntu with an other "update manager" but I can't remember it's name). And all operated now.

I wanted to update Pidgin because he couldn't log on after the update to Ubuntu 9.04. But the same day, I got an other modem (the Neufbox from SFR) and it has got two "connections". After resolving my bug, I just change the "connection" I used. Pidgin can't log on one of the "connections".
