Bug Description

Binary package hint: language-pack-es

Ubuntu 9.04 just installed, Gnome 2.26.1., Spanish.

In "Add and remove applications" ("Añadir aplicaciones..." in spanish) window, the left-side menu bar have its items unlocalized and they are displayed in english instead of spanish: "Games" instead of "Juegos", "Office" instead of "Oficina" and so forth.

Antonio, I can't reproduce this issue in my Jaunty. Have you got all the language-pack-gnome-es* and language-pack-es* packages installed? Have you installed Ubuntu 9.04 using the final desktop CD? Have you upgraded or installed?

Ricardo, I installed 9.04 desktop from an USB prepared with the 'USB setup disk' utility from 8.10. Not an upgrade, but a completely new installation.

I have followed the standard procedure with no special events. First boot after installation I am asked to complete the language support, which is performed with no incidences.

I have also english installed but the language selected in my system is Spanish/Castilian.

Synaptic says they are installed:

language-pack-gnome-es
language-pack-gnome-es-base
language-pack-es
language-pack-es-base

But I can't see other packages following criteria language-pack-gnome-es* and language-pack-es*.

Antonio, check that "Español/Castellano" is checked in "Selector de idiomas" with an \/ like mark, not a dash "-". Probably the USB image does not contains all the Spanish langpacks, and you need to make sure you've checked the Español/Castellano but without the \/ sign, not the "-" sign.

I've installed the following language-* packages:

language-pack-es
language-pack-es-base
language-pack-gnome-es
language-pack-gnome-es-base
language-support-es
language-support-translations-es
language-support-writing-es

Check that, too, and try to do:

  $ sudo apt-get update

A closer look has revealed that package "language-support-es" was not installed, but, anyway, the left-side menu bar is still displayed in english.

All other language packages for spanish are apparently installed.

I have too installed those same packages at this moment. I have run 'sudo apt-get update' too, but still have the problem.

Not yet checked the issue of the mark yoy have mentioned, let me see and will let you know after rebooting.

Anyway, I have realized that packages bellow have version 8.10.

Regarding the mark, I guess you mean:

 - Sistema -> Administración -> Soporte de idiomas.
Para mis meńus y ventanas, usar: Español; Castellano (España).
Para cualquiera en el inicio y entrada, usar: Español; Castellano (España).
     Instalar/Eliminar idiomas...
English ,/ (mark, not dash '-')
Spanish; Castilian ,/ (mark, not dash '-')
     All other languages are unselected.

That's what I have.

LiveCD session booted from USB also has the same problem.

I believe this has something to do with USB installation, as you have mentioned, because since 8.04 I am installing Ubuntu with USB and if I my memory does not fail too much in all installations I had the same problem. In case there is an issue with 'LiveUSB' we must bear in mind that installation from USB is becoming a very popular installation method.
