Bug Description

Binary package hint: nmap

The Ubuntu repository hold no package for nmap, but holds packages for GUI front-ends to nmap that have nmap dependencies: knmap, nmapsi4, zenmap, etc. Trying to install one of the GUI frontends provides the following error:

zenmap:
Depends: nmap but it is not installable

I have nmap and zenmap installed, and nmap is showing in the Main repository for Jaunty. Can you post the contents of your /etc/apt/sources.list file?

I decided to see if I could get the nmap package from the repository manually. I went to http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty. I needed to track down prerequisite packages and when I got to http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/python/python-gnome2-extras, it requires libgda3-3 and libgda3-common. However libgda4-4/common is what got installed with the O/S

woops sorry. I did get nmap installed after downloading manually from the repository. It must have been one of the GUI front-ends that wound up sending me on the libgda3, libgdl1 chase

Marking Invalid, as it seems it wasn't a bug with the packaging. If this is not the case, please update the bug report and we'll re-open accordingly. Thanks again for raising a bug! :)
