crm - references not enterable/searchable

the 2 references in CRM are behaving oddly
sometimes it is not possible to enter search criteria in the empty field.

IMHO if the Object (Project,Invoice,,) is changed it is not possible to enter a search criteria
after saving the record the field is enterable again

I actually didn't get what you mean to say.

Let me clear that:
It's a fields.reference :

1. First selection box, if empty won;t allow second box to put up values.

2. What do you mean by 'not possible to enter search criteria in the empty field.' ?

3. If the object on the left side is changed, it changes the relation immediately for the many2one field.

most fields which open another form take a search string to reduce the number of matching results

example CRM
enter Z into partner and click "Search a resource" will only retrieve partners with "Z"

same is ( or should be ) with fields.reference
1) select an object (a different from the one which is probably displayed as default)
2) enter a string in the box right of the object - but this is only possible after saving the form without a resource of this object.
it should be possible to select an object AND enter a string AND "search a resource" WITHOUT saving the form.

Yes it seems like a problem.

While the reference gets changed, many2one becomes uneditable.
