Screen (not the video) flickers while Totem loads

Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

If I start Totem Movie Player in Ubuntu Jaunty RC, the Totem window opens but isn't ready immedietely. The entire screen flickers, XOrg causes 100 % CPU load for about 10 or more seconds and the Ubuntu is very sluggish. After that, the player runs as expected, plays video files etc.

System:
Ubuntu 9.04 - Jaunty Jackalope 64 Bit Release Candidate
AMD Athlon X2 4200+
ATI HD 3850 (with fglrx drivers from the repo)

that's more like a video drivers issue rather than a bug in totem.

Thanks for the hint.

I figured out that this problem doesn't only occur when totem loads, but on startup of several other apps too, especially when using wine.
Now I updated the fglrx drivers to version 9.4. Since the update, the flickering only occurs for several 100 ms.
