Bug Description

Binary package hint: josm

The OSM servers are scheduled to switch to 0.6 API today. At this point the 0.5 API will apparently stop working so JOSM needs updating to a recent version:

The linked Debian bug report suggests that >=r1529 is recommended. (I think this bug fix is the reason why: http://josm.openstreetmap.de/changeset/1529/trunk/src/org/openstreetmap/josm/data/osm/visitor/CreateOsmChangeVisitor.java ) Note this version is only 4 days old, but since the old version currently in Ubuntu will stop working, there isn't really any other option.

Debian new unstable package appears to work fine. I've run it on my jaunty machine and sucesfully updated OSM.

I've uploaded debians packages to OSM's PPA and they've built: https://launchpad.net/~openstreetmap/+archive/ppa

JOSM has been broken for a month now.

Is this bug going to be fixed? Or is JOSM not maintained anymore?

yeah this is still broken for me.

This is an import bug for this package, since JOSM is effectivly useless in it's current state.

Why is a totally broken package in a release? Wasted my time thinking I was doing the right thing staying in-distro. This defeats the purpose of a distro.

The version you've uploaded to PPA (r1788) has known crash bugs which make josm unusable for certain tasks, e.g. http://josm.openstreetmap.de/ticket/2936 which wasn't fixed until r1863 and http://josm.openstreetmap.de/ticket/2782 which wasn't fixed until r1811. I am currently using r1815 which works ok, later revisions are probably better too.
