No UTF-8 conversion with memos

Bug Description

When synchronizing the Palm memos the filenames and the file contents are in ISO-8859-1. This is not very nice in an UTF-8 environment, as GNOME is. It is not possible to open such a file with simply clicking on the file. I have to open Gedit from menu, then open the file and first saying that the file has ISO characters.
Creating a new memo on have to change the caracter set on save and eventually change the filename if it contains non ASCII characters. This is not user friendly.

A new version was uploaded to Edgy. It'd be nice if you had a chance to test this and report back, if the problem still persists.

Thank you. I use dapper. Perhaps I will try to backport gnome-pilot and gnome-pilot-conduits or try it in a Virtual Machine.

Cool - or try a LiveCD, that'd work too.

I have try it out with my backported version of gnome-pilot 2.0.14. The result is the same, even with PILOT_CHARSET set to CP1252. I assume, there is no conversion in the memo code itself, as it is on the Categories on Evolution (but only there, the body is correct, Launchpad Bug 64575).

Is this a dup of bug 64575?

No, this is not a dup of bug 64575. Bug 64575 is against the EMemo conduit from evolution. There are only the categories wrong.
This bug is against the conduit MemoFile from the package gnome-pilot-conduits. Here all the text is wrong.

The problem is still there. Nothing has changed. But in the meantime I use the conduit EMemos instead of MemoFile. EMemos integrates with evolution and works fine since Bug 64575 has been fixed.

I suggest to drop MemoFile.
