Bug Description

I created a USB startup disk with the Ubuntu creator on a 2GByte Fat16 stick using the latest daily build (2009-04-18) because of bug #276822.

 I started the live session.

If I end the live-session with restart, the USB stick gets corrupt. While booting from it the message is: "Operating System not found". And I have to recreate the USB stick.

If I end the live session with shutdown, it works fine.

summary: - USB startup disk is corrupt afer using restart to end live-session

I cannot reproduce this myself, so can you please provide some additional details?

Are you sure it's a FAT16 and not FAT32 disk? What did you use to create the filesystem?
Are you able to continuously reproduce this?
What version of usb-creator are you using?

Hello,

sorry for the late reply. I was quite busiy with rolling out the new jaunty to all the computers I care for.

The USB stick has FAT16.
It is a Trekstore stick with 2GByte.
The behavior appeared on this stick no matter I created it with the latest Intrepid USB installer, the Jaunty RC USB installer or Unetbootin using not the default option but the OEM option on booting.

Now I tested it with the final Jaunty USB image copied with dd ... and it has the same behavior. Booting a live session and restarting creates a message Operating System not found. The boot menu to select the language does not appear as well as any other message.

I have a Samsung NC10.
...
Oh, ok. Now I plugged the USB stick after rebooting out and it works. But I am shure that before it was corrupted, because I tested it on my other notebook as well. With plugging on and off.

Anyway, now it works, because the message says remove the boot media.

Maybe the USB stick is in a not allowed state while powered on.

Thank you for your help, sorry for any work I created!

Steffen
