Bug Description

Issue or bug appears, when we want to update connection settings (Mobile Broadband connections).
I have such Internet connection only, so I don't know if for other types it appears or not.

Details:
it seems that Network Manager saves connection settings and not refreshed values in dialog
or does not save.

Example:
Steps:
1. New connection has been created. (only PIN has been changed)
2. Connection settings have been applied.
3. PIN has value entered, so everything is OK (changes were saved).
4. Username and Password have been filled up.
5. Connection settings have been applied.
6. PIN, Username and Password have value entered, so all changes were applied.
7. PIN, Username, Password have been cleared (Values from these three fields should be blank next time).
8. Connection settings have been applied.
9. Username was blank, Password was filled up, PIN was filled up, so connection settings were not applied.

I have to be more careful, when I choose where the bug appears,
so It is a save operation done by network-manager-applet.
It seems, that it does not store values, which we were entered.

affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) → network-manager-applet (Ubuntu)

I upgraded previous version of Ubuntu 8.10 to the latest one 9.04
on Sunday evening through update manager, so I believe that I had the latest snapshot.

I will check for updates and see if it still appears or not.

I upgraded Ubuntu 8.10 (where this bug exists too) to latest version 9.04 last night,
so I believe, that I should have the latest snapshot.

It still appears (maybe not appears, because it appears when you update (not create) the connection config.

Strange thing is that it appear for fields, which contain hidden values (like passwords),
so when I change Username, Password and PIN (for example), apply the changes
and edit saved configuration then everything is OK, but when I change my mind and clear
values in Username, Password and PIN, apply the changes and edit (I believe saved configuration)
only Username field is blank. It might not be the rule for this issue, but it exists only for that kind of fields
(Password, PIN, PUK).

It seems, that you can change password, PIN and such fields
(field, which have masked input), but you cannot clear them (during update operation).

Only workaround for that is to delete configuration and create it again.

I believe, that it should not work like it is working now,
but when you want to clear password, PIN or other masked field
you don't have to re-create whole configuration.

I have the same problem in 9.04. You can't enter a blank password, because the settings editor will not replace an existing password with a blank password.

You used to be able to fix this be deleting and recreating the entire account and being careful not to edit the password. Now though (recent updates) it seems to stick 'guest' in as the default username and password if you don't set them.

So no I am screwed, I can't use NM to connect to 3G connections any more, simply because I can't set a blank password!

Is there any way to bypass the edit setting dialog and manually blank out the password?
