Bug Description

Binary package hint: kppp

I'm running Kubuntu 64-bit 9.04-rc1 on a Dell Studio XPS 16

When I execute kppp and connect, I consistently receive a plasma error dialog box which states.

Sorry - Plasma Workspace
/usr/share/applications/kde4/Kppp.desktop
Either KLauncher is not running anymore, or it failed to start the application.

Selecting "OK" on this dialog really doesn't cause anything to crash. This error occurs if I execute kppp several minutes after the machine has been booted. If I execute kppp _immediately_ after the machine has been booted (shortly after the desktop appears) I receive a more serious error that requires me to terminate kwin and subsequently leaves me looking at a black screen.

I am experiencing exactly the same symptoms on a fresh install of Kubuntu 9.10.

Additionally after I execute kppp and connect, the plasma error doesn't appear for about 30-45 seconds, during that time I am unable to open the command launcher with alt+f2

I have consistently observed the same symptoms since I installed Kubuntu 9.10 at the beginning of December 2009. I have more difficult problems with dialup on the Ubuntu (GDE) 9.10 version I installed on the same machine at the same time, but have generally used kludges to get around the problems. Seems as if little attention is paid dialup concerns, probably thought to be an insignificant problem overall.

Hi there!

Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. While we appreciate your issue, it would be better if it was tracked at https://bugs.kde.org, so that the KDE developers can deal with this speedily and have direct communication with you as the reporter for more effective debugging.

Thanks!
