update-manager icon does not show up in notification panel

Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

After upgrading my Intrepid box to Jaunty, update-manager's notification icon has disappeared from the panel. I see other notification icons in the panel, but u-m's has disappeared and I can't find any way to restore it. It does not show up when there are updates pending, neither does it show up when u-m is running.

Phew! That's a long thread. I wonder why my bug report didn't turn it up in a search. But at least I know it's intended behavior, whatever I think of it. Thanks for letting me know it's not a bug. Hopefully the 100,000 other befuddled future upgraders will stumble on one of these issues before they scratch a bald spot into their skull about it. :)
