Thanks for your bug. That seems to be a GTK issue, could you get a backtrace
with libgtk2.0-0-dbg installed? When does it crash exactly? When opening the
directory browser?

I get a similar bug. When I try to add a new background, nothing happens...oddly nothing crashes for me.

This is either still not fixed or a new bug. I have the same issue on Ubuntu Gutsy 64bit. Everything of mine is up to date, and noticed today I have the same issue as described in this bug.
