Bug Description

Sometimes, when I hibernate my system, I see, from console, (after X disappers) some text messages that say:

"iwl 3945: MAC is in deep sleep
uvcvideo: failed to query (1) UVC control 2
uvcvideo 6-2:11 resume error -5
.............
............."

Then the hibernate process seems to work ok. No problem seems to happen at resume.
The issue happens at almost 50% of hibernation processes.

root@dominus:/var/log# dmesg|grep -i uvc

Hi marco.pallotta,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid.

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 362624

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem both with ubuntu karmic that with opensuse. Dmesg | grep uvc reports

[ 9412.672124] uvcvideo 1-2:1.1: reset_resume error -5

My webcam works very well if i don't use hibernation.

Exactly the same problem:

uvcvideo: Failed to set UVC commit control : -32 (exp. 26).
uvcvideo 1-2:1.1: reset_resume error -5

Using: Linux 2.6.32-23-generic #37-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 GNU/Linux

Hibernates and resumes without no problem, but the uvcvideo fails to. I tried to include it in /etc/default/acpi-support so as to load and unload on hibernate, but it does not work

However, it works on suspend

I ll try to collect up the relevant files

marco.pallotta, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Hardy desktop reached EOL on May 12, 2011.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If so, could you please provide the information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . However, note you can only test Suspend, not Hibernate, when using a LiveCD. If the issue remains, run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal) as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <BUGNUMBER>

Additionally, if you could try to reproduce this with the upstream mainline kernel that would be great.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.
