Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After a apt-get dist-upgrade to jaunty I've got performance problems watching DVB-T video with kaffeine. Xorg and kaffeine both use 49% CPU performance. The picture in kaffeine jumps backward and forward (like a DJ scratching with vinyl LPs).
So I tried to set Option "AccelMethod" "uxa", but screens keep black after reboot. The cursor is still there and it's still possible to login and start kaffeine with alt-F2 keystroke (I hear the sound from DVB-T video).
Setting back Option to "AccelMethod" "exa", screens work, but performance problems keep the same.

For Karmic we're making UXA bugs like these a top priority, so I would like to forward this one upstream. First though, we need to verify the issue still exists with the latest upstream release. Would you please install and test the 2.7.0 driver and reproduce the bug, and let us know ASAP? A PPA with a Jaunty version of this driver is available at: https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/

I have a similar trouble with my Foxconn G31MV/G31MV-K motherboard and integrated x3100 videocard.

@doom, "black screen" is sort of a generic symptom, so having similar trouble doesn't seem to be enough to prove you have the same bug as spam.

I can confirm this with Karmic packages 2.7.0-1ubuntu1 and also with the ppa package 2.7.0-1ubuntu2~xup~1
if i put AccelMethod "exa" everything goes fine, so probably is an uxa/gem problem.

sorry for the spam.. i forgot to tell you that i'm using 2.6.30-5-server linux kernel found in karmic repository and that if i try to run some opengl software it complains 'bout some GEM problem message: "Failed to initialize GEM. Falling back to classic."

i830 with 2.7.0 Option "AccelMethod" "uxa" is still getting flickering black screen instead of desktop.

karmic Alpha 1 /proc/version:

Linux version 2.6.30-5-generic (buildd@rothera) (gcc version 4.4.1 (Ubuntu 4.4.0-3ubuntu3) ) #6-Ubuntu SMP Mon May 11 19:56:30 UTC 2009

With flickering black screen, I can do Ctrl-Alt-F1 and log in. Running ubuntu-bug -p xorg seems to gather a log, however when in text mode it gives the options of K,S,V, ... to keep the log ubuntu-bug quits and says Report None. And in fact, directory /var/crash is empty.

I'll attach Xorg.0.log from the failed state.

Jerry

jerry, you have an i830 rather than an i915, so you aren't having the same bug as spam.

spam, next I'd like to forward this issue upstream, but first it must be retested on latest Karmic to make sure the issue still happens there with the latest code. ISO images are available at http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/. If you can reproduce it in the LiveCD environment, you shouldn't need to modify your installed system. Also please attach a fresh Xorg.0.log from this testing.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
