No such file in that directory...The problem was solved by changing the option from "main server" to "server in Italy" in Software Sources dialog. Now everithing works, included Synaptic, apt and Add/Remove that were afflicted with the same bug.

Ok, think it has been fixed...now it works using the main server option too. Think had an incomplete package list while upgrading to 9.10...
