Bug Description

Hello,

I just upgrated from Intrepid to jaunty beta and I got 3 times this error at boot :

[ 2.008091] ata1: link online but device misclassified, retrying
[ 2.008095] ata1: reset failed (errno=-11), retrying in 10 secs

Boot continues, system finally works, but I loose one minute during each boot process.

Previous kernel were OK, (IDE drives were initialized before Sata drives, timing was completely different ).
Hardy is still working perfectly (installed on another partition, same disk )

I hope that you'll find all necessary information in the joined files ant that my first bug report will be usefull....
Thanks for all the good work done.
Best regards

Sami Donnet

I had to replace my motherboard... that's solved also my problem.

I don't know if both problems ( bug "device missclassified" and hardware problem ) were linked. I think probably not, but it is not impossible either that the new kernel destroyed my moteherboard, either that an an hardware weakness was responsible of the bug )

Everything works fine for me now with my ASUS P5 KPL-CM. (no other changes)

Confirmed on my machine. I'm running Jaunty, kernel 2.6.28-14 (problem happened when upgraded from Intrepid, probably issue with the new kernel). Also confirmed on openSUSE 11.1. This is definitely a kernel issue, not a Ubuntu issue.

The error on my machine is verbatim with the OP.

Same problem here. I think it is the same bug as #381777.
