Bug Description

I have connected my externel HDD in Ubuntu 9.04 jaunty over firewire now, and turned it on, the systemlog displayes the following :

2009-04-15 19:39:59 gst kernel [25572.676868] scsi 11:0:0:0: Direct-Access-RBC WDC WD20 00JB-00DUA0 PQ: 0 ANSI: 4

2009-04-15 19:39:59 gst kernel [25572.966627] sde: sde1

Even if it displays sde1 there , it comes to no mount or appearing in KDE's Device Manager.
Even a manaul mount will fail :

i used fdisk to find information about this hdd but this fails too :

Platte /dev/sde: 200.0 GByte, 200049647616 Byte
255 Köpfe, 63 Sektoren/Spuren, 24321 Zylinder
Einheiten = Zylinder von 16065 × 512 = 8225280 Bytes
Disk identifier: 0x774f0373

Festplatte /dev/sde enthält keine gültige Partitionstabelle (HDD does not contain a valid Partitionrecord)

It does not show me a filesystem.

The HDD is formatted with the NTFS File system.

a manual mount will fail with the following error :

spook@gst:~$ sudo mount /dev/sde1 test
[sudo] password for spook:
mount: Sie müssen den Dateisystemtyp angeben
(You have to specifey the filesstem type)

When i connect the same box over USB all works.

This worked correctly under Hardy 8.04 last time.

Kernel is : Linux gst 2.6.28-11-generic #41-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 8 04:38:53 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04

including all fixes until today.

There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.04). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect 361889, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

It workrs now correctly again in Karmic 9.10 with kernel 2.6.31-20-generic

Device appears once again in the kde device manager, and will be mounted correctly.

Not tested under Lucid so far.
