Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

As per one suggestion in Bug #270303, I deleted the "localstore.rdf" files in my .mozilla/firefox/blahblahblahdefault folders in order to fix the problem described in that report. It worked, but ever since then I am unable to "X" out of Firefox. That is, I can't close FF with the "Close Window "X" button in the upper right-hand side of the window; I can only do so using File >> Quit, and this of course shuts down every instance, not just the active window. Pop-ups, of course, don't have a "File" option, so I can't help but shut down Firefox entirely. Very annoying.

Furthermore, as per a suggestion in UbuntuForums, I completely uninstalled FF, deleted my .mozilla folder, rebooted and then reinstalled FF. Oddly enough, I think this solution worked for a short time (and I had forgotten just how fast FF is without plugins and add-ons!) But soon thereafter, the problem was back... assuming it was ever really gone. I may have been mistaken about that.

I'm on Ubuntu 8.10, using Firefox 3.0.8. thank you for any help you can give.

I did a fresh install of Jaunty on my machine, with what I know for a fact was an absolutely up-to-date version of FF, and it worked perfectly until I copied and pasted my old .mozilla folder back into my Home folder. At that point it once again failed to "x" out as expected. I deleted my .mozilla folder again and decided to start from scratch. All has been well since then.

I'm not sure what I could do short of sharing that old folder (which I'm not willing to do) but please feel free to ask. Thanks for everything you do.
