Exactly the same problem here. When I try to install icedtea6-plugin, it installs pulseaudio dependencies in Kubuntu Jaunty 9.04 too.

In consequence every time that I install it, the flash videos come soundless and if I play them anyway, they just crash.

After do: sudo apt-get remove icedtea6-plugin and then sudo apt-get autoremove --purge, all dependencies get uninstalled without problems and everything comeback to normality (I mean, I can watch flash videos without crashing and with sound again). I'm using the flash nonfree plugin in firefox.

Maybe this can be another bug, but it is close related with the pulseaudio dependencies tied to the java plugin. Since the distro don't use Pulse Audio, is there a way to get rid of those dependencies just for Kubuntu users?

Thank you!

Quoting from http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html#s-binarydeps

"The Recommends field should list packages that would be found together with this one in all but unusual installations."

Using Kubuntu should not be considered unusual.

do sound apps using openjdk-6 work without pulseaudio in kubuntu?

Yes sound works, tested with http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/sound/samples/JavaSoundDemo/index.html

Tested with absolutely no pulseaudio packages (which makes openjdk a broken package), removed libpulse (a openjdk hard dependency) which sometimes seems to break sound on its on. Sound still worked.

Also tested with libpulse and no other pulseaudio packages. Sound still worked.

Any other cases I should check?
