Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open the Network Manager Connection Editor (nm-connection-editor).
2. Select a wired connection and click on Edit.

A dialog appears asking you to enter your password. That dialog shows the "System policy prevents modification of system settings" message untranslated in my Spanish desktop. This message can't be translated, because there's not in the network-manager Launchpad template nor the system-tools-backends template:

  https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/network-manager/+pots/networkmanager/es/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=policy

  https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/system-tools-backends/+pots/system-tools-backends/es/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=policy

This is a high visibility string that should be translated like similar strings from other authorization dialogs.

I attach an screenshot to illustrate the problem.

I don't know if this issue could be related with bug #207677 or is a completely different bug.

Alexander, are you sure this bug is a duplicate of bug #207677? The #207677 is fixed, and it refers to two different strings:

- "System policy prevents modifying the configuration"
- "System policy prevents modifying the user configuration"

I believe Ricardo is right, this is not a duplicate, as it refers to another (although similar) string:

 - "System policy prevents modification of system settings"

I think the first thing to do would be to find out where this string comes from and file a bug against the proper package (in case it is not network-manager)

I'm going to reopen the bug because it seems to be a different problem and not a duplicate of #207677, as David and me believes. Hope we're not wrong.

not sure whose issue this is. The file can be translated, however it doesnt work with rosetta atm.

The file that would need translated messages is: org.freedesktop.network-manager-settings.system.policy

Martin, can you please see if the fix from bug #207677 could be applied to this one? Thanks.

Certainly. n-m needs to have a .policy.in and use intltool-merge to add translations into it.

I decided to give it a go and submitted a patch upstream fixing the issue -> http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=582918

I could confirm this is fixed at least in current Precise. Marking Fix Released.
