I've posted a new version of the -nvidia driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?

Get nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 - 185.18.14 here:

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

The basic problem of updating some packages is because of this (found in the attached logfile):

dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/user-mode-linux_2.6.22-2um-0ubuntu2_i386.deb (--unpack):
failed in buffer_write(fd) (10, ret=-1): backend dpkg-deb during `./usr/lib/uml/modules/2.6.22-rc5/kernel/fs/gfs2/gfs2.ko': No space left on device

So the hard disk ran out of space here, Bug 312491 discusses improving the error message display for such cases, for now please try to make more space available on your harddrive and then try again.

Problem solve by installing a fresh copy of Ubuntu 9.10 32 bits (ext4) witch install the driver version 185.18.36. I won't install manually the latest driver for the moment. When I will do it, I will report any bug I will have. Thanks

I think this can be closed duplicate for now based on the last two comments, Bug 312491 discusses handling out-of-disk-space situations in a more user-friendly way.
