My shots do not kill others

Bug Description

After upgrading to client 2.0.2.20050318ubuntu2, and connecting to the usual internet game servers, my shots do not kill other players. I can be killed by my shots and other player's shots.

The bug is the same as this one reported in Debian: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=323815 and probably has the same solution, namely upgrading to version 2.0.4 of the client.

A temporary workaround to this bug is to install Debian's BZFlag 2.0.4.

The libraries to install, from an actualized Breezy, are:

http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/gcc-4.0/libgcc1_4.0.2-3_i386.deb
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/gcc-4.0/gcc-4.0-base_4.0.2-3_i386.deb
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/gcc-4.0/libstdc++6_4.0.2-3_i386.deb
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/c/curl/libcurl3_7.15.0-3_i386.deb
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/c/ca-certificates/ca-certificates_20050804_all.deb
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/o/openssl/libssl0.9.8_0.9.8a-2_i386.deb
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/libi/libidn/libidn11_0.5.18-1_i386.deb
http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/b/bzflag/bzflag_2.0.4.20051017_i386.deb

Download (substituting by your favourite Debian mirror if you want), install with

sudo dpkg -i *.deb

And enjoy the bliss of killing other tanks once again! But leave those of your same color in peace please.

That is all I can do. Someone port BZFlag 2.0.4 to Ubuntu please. I do not enjoy installing alien libstdc++ libraries. Thanks.

UPDATE ON ABOVE FIX:

As I feared, messing up with Debian packages has had terrible consequences. Synaptic has uninstalled most of my packages, including all of Gnome, during a routine upgrade. Apply the above instructions at your own peril, and be very careful about apt-get and synaptic afterwards. See you in the battlefields.

NEW FIX:

I have built a bzflag package compiled against Breezy. I have tried it and it seems to work right. Try it as a replacement while this is resolved by people more knowledgeable than me (this is the first .deb I have ever built; I did it with checkinstall).

Finally Ubuntu players can be seen in the battlefields!

Today is a good day to die!

This BZFlag package installs in Ubuntu Breezy and solves the bugs with BZFlag 2.0.2.
