I am using the Jaunty beta with today's (04/14) updates. Some of my laptop hotkeys such as increase/decrease display brightness, toogle WLAN on/off, select video output and some less important Samsung specific do not work. I followed the guide at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting and would like to give a report.

FN+F4: toogle video output (LCD, external connector)

FN+F5: switch LCD backlight on/off

FN+F9: switch WLAN on/off

The FN+Esc keystroke is intended to activate standby mode. This does not work; the laptop is actually going standby but the LCD stays off when woken up again (however, pressing the power button shuts it safely down). Suspend and resume via software works fine.

There are some more Samsung (and Windows) specific FN-keystrokes such as

FN+F2: show battery state

FN+F7: run some PC doctor intended for system recovery

FN+F8: toogle CPU frequency states: powersave, normal, performance (Samsung applet in Windows)

I also appended the log files as wished in the hotkeys page. Sorry if I forgot something, I'm quite new to bug reporting :)

I have exactly the same problems.
When I try to use brightness keys seems that ubuntu "understands" what I'm doing, because on the top-right of the screen appears the brightness bar (like the volume one, when I change the volume) but it is "blocked".

I have to add that it's possible to increase/decrease brightness using "brightness applet" but only if the nvidia drivers are disabled.

I forgot: I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.1

I have had the same problem with my brandnew Thinkpad T410 with Nvidia Quadro NVS 3100M. To get the Fn brigthness keys working, I had to add an option to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file into the device section of the nvidia card:

  ...
  Driver "nvidia"
  Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
  ...
EndSection

Maybe this enables the brightness control on the Samsung R70 notebook, too (?)
