Bug Description

This is Jaunty Beta. I used "sudo ubuntu-bug PID" so you should get a boatload of related info. Here are my highlights.

The file /var/log/Xorg.0.log starts with this useful version info:
...
X.Org X Server 1.6.0
Release Date: 2009-2-25
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.24-15-server x86_64 Ubuntu
Current Operating System: Linux ninja 2.6.28-11-server #41-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 8 05:29:01 UTC 2009 x86_64
Build Date: 09 April 2009 02:11:54AM
...
A few lines later it tries to give me VNC support and fails as follows:
...
(II) LoadModule: "vnc"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libvnc.so
dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libvnc.so: undefined symbol: NumCurrentSelections
(EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libvnc.so
(II) UnloadModule: "vnc"
(EE) Failed to load module "vnc" (loader failed, 7)
...
That text looks to me like it may give enough info to make an easy job for somebody who knows how to make the compiler and linker work. Sadly, I don't, so I have to ask you experts for help. Thanks!

Bug fixers, please look at Bug #260815 in Launchpad. It's the same thing in earlier versions of Ubuntu and earlier releases of Xorg. The last comment in that thread offers a patch that is said to fix the problem. I apologize for not noticing this earlier.
