Bug Description

Hi

I've noticed that kdesu doesn't remember the sudo password used in a short period of time whereas in gnome gksudo does remember it for 3 minutes more or less. It's a little bit annoying when doing administrative tasks with gui tools.

This is a wish for KDE rather than a bug in Kubuntu. Could you file it on the KDE bug tracking system ? http://bugs.kde.org

Actually I'd say more : kdesu is not made to work with sudo iirc. The initial role of kdesu is to use ... su! So it would either log you as root by default or allow you to launch a program as a different user.

Kdesu has been patched in Kubuntu in order to use sudo instead of su, but it is not made for it still. It should indeed be a great idea to have it support sudo natively, or develop a kdesudo as their is gksu/gksudo.

Actually, gksu and gksudo are the same program ;)

dennis@mirage:~$ ls /usr/bin/gksu* -l
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 31836 2006-03-24 23:39 /usr/bin/gksu
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 2006-03-25 11:16 /usr/bin/gksudo -> gksu
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 12492 2006-03-24 23:39 /usr/bin/gksuexec

jriddell's SVN commit 570635 on 2006-08-07 15:48 seems to have fixed the kdesu working with sudo bug. See the linked KDE bug 20914. But the original wish has still not been implemented.

On my current Edgy Beta, using kdesu twice within ~10 sec requires a password both times. I think kmon would like for using it the second time to not require a password.

Absolutely needed that...

Anyway I've noticed that running another kdesu istance if you write any password (or just leave the password field blank) and you click on on "Ok", the kdesu works good...
So... It should pratically check if it can run, before of asking a password again...

kdesu now remembers the password for a given period of time. However this introduces a new bug that Treviño has filed upstream, since it mainly affects KDE.

I'm closing this wish since the feature has now been released. Please monitor Treviño's upstream bug for further updates.

The bug isn't solved yet, it's just a wish on kde bugzilla...
