Bug Description

Using Jaunty Netbook Remix 9.04 dev branch with Haier X200. Have tried various suggestions with similar bugs, such as getting xserver-xorg-input-all but it says latest version is installed and still no touchpad whatsoever (fyi version is 1:7.4~5ubuntu18). Only way to use pointer currently is with USB mouse.

Windows lists the touchpad as "Alps."

Based on other bug reports like this, I've attached the results of xinput list and lspci -vvnn for further information.

I had this problem, fixed it with the solution found here:

http://agoranetbook.kayno.net/?p=7

To can try it out by pressing 'e' in grub, without having to modify menu.lst.

Good luck.

Hi,

Sadly it didn't work. On the other hand, I haven't upgraded from RC to Final. Should I try again after upgrading, or any other ideas?

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

Does look similar to bug 377741, but I don't have the knowledge to determine if the cause is the same.

This thread discusses undetected ALPS touchpads on HP computers, and seem to have some fixes (although I haven't tried any of them yet):

Although these touchpads still work by emulating a ImPS/2 mouse, I think it might be the same problem.

This bug report was filed against an old version of Ubuntu.
Can you confirm whether this is still an issue in natty?

If you don't mind, it would be very helpful if you could update the bug
report in launchpad to 'Fix Released' if it is no longer an issue for
you, or if it is still occurring under natty, please tag the bug 'natty'
so it's easier for us to track.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
