[RV350] jaunty mouse cursor stuck on second monitor

Bug Description

I am running two X screens. When I move the mouse cursor from the primary X screen to the secondary it will not allow me to move it back to the primary. I am still able to move the mouse cursor on the secondary screen and anything that will open on the secondary screen is still usable. Items that open on the primary screen are usable via keyboard only if they steal focus from the secondary screen (but the mouse cursor still only moves on the secondary screen). I am using a ATI Radeon 9550 with the open source radeon driver.

When I change the ServerLayout section to LeftOf instead of RightOf, the cursor works fine on the gdm login screen. But as soon as I login, I get the following /var/log/syslog

Apr 11 22:40:56 sonofbeast kernel: [ 2956.811585] glxinfo[7342]: segfault at c ip b7f82725 sp bfbd8970 error 4 in libGL.so.1.2[b7f49000+58000]

And my monitors switch to cloned view.

You can close this bug. I solved my problem by doing sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and using the "Display" applet to set this up.

Hey schobes,

I'm suffering from the same problem. Can you please give some more details about how you fixed it?

Thanks!
Paul.

The patch (/patched packages) given in bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/357901 seems to solve this problem too.

@Marius Kotsbak: no, it doesn't fix this "cursor stuck" bug for me.

I'm also having this problem and neither the dpkg-reconfigure nor the patch worked from above. Also, I'm using the nvidia driver, not ATI so I don't think it's specific to that. Also, it occurs with or without Xinerama.

Update: with the nvidia driver, if I use TwinView everything works. No stuck mouse on the secondary screen. It seems that the bug is indeed in the X server packages somewhere.

i can confirm this bug. Jaunty 32bit GeForce 8400GS using nvidia-glx-180 package from repos.
With Twinview, the problem never occured, only with Xinerama. Xorg patch from other bug involving 2 cursors does not fix this problem (but it does fix its own problem)

Twinview isnt an option for me as i cant get fullscreen apps to behave no matter how many metamodes and resolutions i add to my xorg.conf.

This bug is particularly annoying in tiling window managers (i use awesome) as i cant just "grab a window and drag it halfway across the screen" Any fixes yet?
