Bug Description

Binary package hint: konsole

An annoying bug in Konsole - with Deskstop Effects enabled in KDE any window resize actions on the Konsole window (maximise, minimise, resize) cause the entire desktop to lockup for up to 10 seconds.

Reproduce
1. Open Konsole
2. Ensure standard desktop effects are enabled
3. Attempt resize window with the mouse using the window border and the max/min buttons

Bug
At 3, nothing happens for about 10 seconds. When the window is being maximised the window then carries out the action. When the window is being resized nothing happens. During the wait, the desktop is inactive.

Workaround:
Turn desktop effects off

To my knowledge this only affects Konsole.

Using konsole 4.2.2 (present in 4.1 onwards from memory)

This appears resolved in Jaunty final.

Sorry, this has started happening again in Jaunty. Window resize actions are causing the desktop to lock for about 10-15 seconds, only when desktop effects enabled.

It happens also to me. I have the Kwin Desktop Effects also enabled in Kubuntu Jaunty with KDE 4.3 RC2.
Also in my case this bug is removed when I disable the Desktop Effects.

It seems that it has been fixed with the last KDE RC2 update

Unhappily this bug is still evident in Konsole (only) and unfortunately not all the time.

1. Enable desktop effects
2. Open Konsole
3. Resize the window from the bottom right (for instance)

Quite often the window resize stalls, the cursor stays in the resize mode and nothing on the desktop is accessible. At worst it locks the desktop for about 10 seconds, although the cursor is still active.
If you move the cursor to the point where you want the window resized, once the desktop "unfreezes" the konsole window will resize to the correct point.

Again, it only happens with Konsole. One instance just occurred after the desktop was inactive for about 20 minutes.

Konsole: Version: 4:4.3.0-0ubuntu1~jaunty1~ppa3
KDE : 4.3 latest packages

Nvidia driver : 180.44-0ubuntu1

Xorg nvidia options enabled:
        Option "RenderAccel" "True"
        Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
        Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "True"

Composite is also enabled:
Option "Composite" "Enable"
