Bug Description

I noticed some new error messages in log after recent update of nouveau. However, it doesn't seem to affect anything. Also, a typo needs to be fixed. =)

(EE) NOUVEAU(0): [dri] unable to reference front buffer: -19
(EE) NOUVEAU(0): [dri] NVDRIFinishScreenInit failed, disbling DRI

Yeah, I noticed this. It requires updates to libdrm-nouveau1 in libdrm,
but these haven't been a part of a libdrm release. Furthermore, this
error only affects DRI, which is aggressively unsupported upstream
anyway.

All in all, it's not worth fixing for Jaunty, and should be fixed in
Karmic automatically by a newer libdrm version.

Chris, thanks for the information. After libdrm-nouveau1 update: old error messages are gone, new ones are:

(EE) AIGLX error: dlopen of /usr/lib/dri/nouveau_dri.so failed (/usr/lib/dri/nouveau_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
(EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering

These are AIGLX telling you that you don't have (accelerated) 3d. Which
is perfectly normal, because sane person installs nouveau's 3d component
system-wide :).

You can try this guide, install 2D drivers from ppa and folow 3D guide
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1046504.html
then, compile and install(same way as nouveau_dri.so) libtxc_dxtn

For me 8600GT it is working :)

Fix released in Karmic. We've got the newer libdrm-nouveau pulled in with other libdrm updates.
