i got the same behavior over here and it happens with all folders.

i think it got something to do with quantity of files and folder inside of the folder we are clicking on. the more files and sub-folder, the more time it takes to respond. if there tooo much, it stop responding.

I have the same problem. Ubuntu 8.10. Happens with a lot of folders. And sometimes I double click on the folder, wait some seconds and nautilus just ignore the command. I have to do the process again, and when it enters in the folder, freezes.

But I can't do the Backtrace. yelp-dbgsym is not available on the repositories. I follow the instructions here (https://wiki.edubuntu.org/DebuggingProgramCrash-pt_BR).
I add the following repositories:
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid-proposed main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://ddebs.ubuntu.com intrepid-security main restricted universe multiverse

But still is not possible to install it.
