Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd

On startup the system boots into the low-graphics mode:

(EE) RADEONHD(0): RHDHdmiInit: unknown HDMI output type
(EE) RADEONHD(0): RandR: No valid modes. Disabling RandR support.
(EE) RADEONHD(0): Failed to detect a connected monitor

After sigkilling X and restarting gdm everything is working just fine.
Maybe i2c is not ready on startup?

Thanks for your report. Can you please try the test package of radeonhd 1.2.5 in my PPA https://launchpad.net/~tormodvolden/+archive/ppa ?
If this does not help, we will have to report it upstream.

Thank you VERY much for the test package:

- "low graphics mode" seems to be fixed here (tested this several times)
- and even EXA 2D accelleration is working now! :-D

Like last time, does it work when you restart X?

I've been trying a few times, but no, it doesn't work anymore. No Video then, Ctrl-Alt-Backspace or Ctrl-Alt-F1 etc. not working.

At this time the _only_ working driver here seems to be the "ATI Catalyst™ Proprietary Display Driver - Linux x86 & Linux x86_64", installed "directly from" the AMD support website. I'm attaching a working fglrx driver log.

Is this still a problem in 10.04 or maverick? Or can you use the default radeon driver instead?
