Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I did a fresh install of Jauntry and to my surprise direct rendering does not appear to be working. glxinfo | grep direct returns "direct rendering: No (LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT set)". I'm seeing a few suspicious errors in dmesg relating to the intel driver:

[ 14.589163] [drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20080730 on minor 0
[ 14.590829] [drm:i915_setparam] *ERROR* unknown parameter 4
[ 14.590907] [drm:i915_getparam] *ERROR* Unknown parameter 6
[ 15.686611] [drm:i915_getparam] *ERROR* Unknown parameter 6

My system is an Acer Aspire One with a Intel 945GME chipset.

I've filed this bug via the ubuntu-bug command so let me know if there is any additional information needed.

Those are actually just innocuous warnings and have no bearing on this
problem.

[This is an automatic notification.]

A new major version of the -intel driver is now available in Karmic.

This version includes a major reworking of the acceleration
architecture, which resolves a huge number of issues. We do not know
whether it resolves the issue you reported.

Would you mind testing Karmic Alpha-2 and seeing if it is still a
problem? CD ISO images are available here:

  http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/

If the issue can still be reproduced on karmic, please report here with
your findings, and attach a fresh Xorg.0.log from your test, and we will
be able to forward the bug upstream.

Otherwise, if the bug no longer exists in Karmic, let us know that as
well.

In the off chance you encounter different bugs while attempting to test
Karmic, please report those as new bug reports.

The issue worsens in karmic.

Xorg crashes and there is no way of changing to another tty.

THere is no way to duplicate this in karmic

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

@Efrain, what you're describing sounds like an unrelated bug which you should file separately.
