Bug Description

I have Kubuntu Jaunty AMD64 installed from the beta. I tried the Nouveau driver and after that video playback doesn't work. The video is just black, I do get the sounds though so the playback itself is working.

I have Geforce 9800GTX+.

But very nice work, better than the NV driver. I was able to configure dual screen with my HD TV with XRANDR. Nice!

For nv5x+ chips, into which class your 9800 falls, nouveau currently only does EXA and Xv acceleration when using a composite manager. Do you have a composite manager running? Metacity, kwin, (with compositing enabled) or xcompgr are appropriate. Without that, you won't have XVideo or EXA acceleration.

I have KDE (KWin). I do have compositing enabled in the System Settings. But I doubt it works since I lost all the transparencies and effects when I swapped to Nouveau. Also my OpenGL screen saver is not working. How do I enable the compositing then?

You will need to switch from the OpenGL backend to the XRender backend - KWin might call them "Renderers". You should be able to do this from System Settings, possibly in the Advanced tab.

Since nouveau doesn't provide any 3d support yet, the OpenGL backend won't work. The 2d acceleration is quite good, however, so the XRender backend should be fast for you.

Can I just say that this is awesome :) Well, expected behavior for a modern OS. But given that I've never succeeded in this before, it's awesome. By this I mean in hooking up two displays with NVIDIA graphics card.

I switched to XRender. And I've got all the effects, performance is good, I can watch HD-movies etc. Some screen savers are too slow. But I guess that is expected since the 3D ain't working. Very good!

Triaged? Invalid?

Invalid :). Eventually this should work without compositing, but until then it's NotABug.
