Bug Description
System: Ubuntu 8.04.2 Desktop, 64-bit
Problem area: X-Windows
Hardware: eVGA Geforce 9800GTX+
I just built this system and installed Hardy. I had the following problems with the proprietary driver:
1.) The Restricted Modules applet didn't seem to recognize my card as being nVidia based. It didn't install the driver.
2.) I installed the driver manually, but then gdm couldn't load.
3.) I removed the driver and installed the latest package from nVidia (180.29). gdm still won't load. GNOME and Compiz Fusion are able to use the new driver as long as gdm doesn't load, so I removed gdm from run level two.
Expected Results:
1.) Restricted drivers applet to detect the card and load the correct proprietary driver.
2.) GDM to work with the driver, at correct resolution, color depth, etc.
The nv driver loads and works just fine, but of course does not permit me to use Compiz Fusion
Debugging logs attached.

I've posted a new version of the -nvidia driver to our xorg-edgers PPA,
would you mind testing it either on Jaunty or Karmic and see if it
resolves this bug?
