Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

Version 2.24.3 in Ubuntu 8.10

When I open my calendars the Birthdays and anniversaries calendar is not ticked "on". When I try to tick it so it will show Evolution will freeze and I need to do a force quit.

I can right click on my other calendars and they will show menus such as properties. When I right click the birthdays calendar nothing happens and Evolution freezes.

Every time.

All other calendars seem to be working fine as long as I don't touch the birthdays and anniversaries one.

Thanks for any help in advance. Bob.

Sorry but that is a little too techee for me. <g>

Is there another way to provide more information?

Maybe you could remote with my machine somehow to install all of those things?

I just would like the application to work for me.

Thanks in advance. Bob.

Most all of the instructions.

Sorry for my ignorance of computers.

I will try again.

gdb <program> 2>&1 | tee gdb-<program>.txt
(gdb) handle SIG33 pass nostop noprint
(gdb) set pagination 0
(gdb) run <arguments, if any>

What is the program I insert?

#

(gdb) backtrace full
(gdb) info registers
(gdb) thread apply all backtrace
(gdb) quit

#

Attach the complete output from GDB, contained in gdb-<program>.txt, in your bug report. You will find the file in your home directory /home/<username>/.

What is the file name going to be?

Thanks in advance.

the program you are having the issue with and try to debug, ie evolution there

Just the word "evolution"?

What is the file name/extension I need to attach?

Sebastien Bacher (seb128) wrote :

not sure what is so unclear there, just type "gdb evolution", you will get a "(gdb)" line, you type "run" there and that's it until the crash, then "backtrace" and you copy that to the bug

You need to understand that it might be clear to you but not to me.....

Now I know to type "gdb evolution" I did not know to then type "run". But when the next crash occurs where/when do I type "backtrace"?

The instructions are just not that clear to me. There are things I do in my professional life that I am sure would not be clear to you.

I do appreciate your help.

Bob.

is your issue due to the english instructions, would you find it easier to get those in an another language?

My degree was not in computer science. I guess that would be the issue if there were one.

does that mean "no, english instruction will do there"? in which case let me try again:
- open a command line
- type "gdb evolution" and hit the "enter" key on your keyboard
- you will get a line starting with "gdb"

when I write "(gdb)" in the start of next lines that's because you are in gdb and will have that on your screen, you need to type what is after the "(gdb)" text

- (gdb) run
... do whatever you do to get the crash
you will be back on a "(gdb)" line
- (gdb) backtrace

that will print some log of function copy that there

if you manage to get the informations it would be interesting to let us know what is not clear in the wikipage so it can be updated in a better way

Thanks, that is what I can understand. I was just assuming that I ran it in a Terminal.

You say to type "run" to start the" backtrace". Once that is done do I need to turn it off?
