Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Also, your bug description is rather terse. Can you take another shot at a more comprehensive description of the problem? I suspect you may have a dupe of another bug but I need more info to tell one way or another.

Please attach it anyway. While it may not look interesting to you, the
log contains version numbers and information about what modules loaded
and so on, that is informative to devs.

Hi, you mention that you experience when "logging in as a new user" - does this imply there is a different way you can log in where the problem does not occur? It could shed some light on the problem if you could elaborate on when you do and do not see the freeze, and any workarounds you've discovered.

Setting to medium priority since so far it's been reported just by one user.

The steps to reproduce suggest this bug is distinct from 359392, although the timing and i965 chipset seem coincidentally similar. It would not surprise me if fixing 359392 will fix this too, but we shouldn't count on it.

A few things to test:

1. Can it be reproduced with compiz disabled?

2. In the xorg.conf's Device section add, Option "EXAOptimizeMigration" "off", then try reproducing it with compiz enabled.

3. Downgrade to mesa 7.3, then with compiz enabled and nothing set in xorg.conf, see if you can reproduce the issue. Note that I think there is a freeze bug in 7.3 that occurs about once every 24 hrs while system is in use.

With the error message, I think that *might* be innocuous. DRI is not supported on more than one session at a time (known issue), so the failure to set up the kernel memory manager may just be an outcome of that. Not sure though.

We have a PPA with some new tools for debugging X freezes:

  https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-freeze-test

I know how irritating X freezes can be. They're also typically
quite hard to debug, but the information provided by these new
tools should help upstream figure them out.

You can help by doing the following:

 A. Install the PPA packages on Jaunty and boot kernel 2.6.30-rc2
 B. Reproduce your freeze
 C. ssh into the machine and run the steps to collect the info
 D. Attach the tarball of the results to this bug report

With this information, we'll be able to forward your bug upstream.

I have very similar symptoms (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370343 ). For me it only happens with UXA enabled.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331795 is also very similar (I marked my bug as a duplicate of 331795 and I believe that this bug also is).

Biji: It appears from your Xorg.log that you also had UXA enabled (?); does the problem go away if you disable UXA?

Bruno may have a different problem since he apparently did not have UXA enabled?
