Hi,
When you said a zip, it is a zip archive, or a zip drive ?
When you said it don't work, can you see the file in inkscape before clicking on open, or can't you simply not see it ?

Does it only happen with PNG or with any file? What Inkscape version?

Ok, things have changed now :
- I have two images in a zip archive. One jpg, and one png
- I mount the zip archive with the archive mounter
- I right click on the jpg or the png and choose "open with inkscape" >>> it works
- I open inkscape and then click the import button in inkscape and then import the jpg or the png >>> it works
- I drag&drop the jpg or the png from nautilus to inkscape >>> it doesn't work while it works with images not from a mounted zip archive.

Inkscape 0.46
Ubuntu 9.04
Gnome 2.26.1

Could you start inkscape and nautilus from a terminal and catch the error messages?

summary: - can't import or open a png image from a mounted zip folder
+ can't import or open a png image from a mounted *.zip file

If I open inkscape and nautilus from the terminal and try to import by drag&drop, there is no error message at all. Just nothing happens.
If I look the permissions by right clic > properties on the mounted zip archive, is says that the permissions couldn't be determined. I don't know if it is normal.

Does this problem still occur with a recent Inkscape (development) version?
