Linked image not updated

Using gimp and inkscape in concert, I noticed that
linked images are not updated properly when saved in gimp.

I guess that there is a bug at the code point where Inkscape observes the lastModified attribute of image files when redrawing the image.

I would expect that at least redrawing would show the updated image.

Even better would be if Inkscape could continuously observe all links and automatically redraws the document
when I save the image in gimp.

My workaround: save and revert.

Not reproduced on WinXP 0.47pre2. Images get updated automatically and fast. Please, tell us what Inkscape's version and operating system are you using.

Another workaround: right click on the image and open Image properties, delete the last letter of the path and rewrite it.

Can you check if the cause is simply that Inkscape is not updating while in the background? I know that it was designed to check when an Inkscape window is brought back up to the focus. So if one saves in GIMP, Inkscape itself will not show a change until you switch back to Inkscape.

Bug confirmed on Ubuntu 9.04, Inkscape 0.46, but NOT with rev. 22296.
Therefore I mark it fixed in 0.47.
Please comment if it's not the case with your OS.
